Increase your Awareness of Affective and Social Factors

Increase Your Self-Awareness

(and awareness of your classmates)

This ‘Find Someone Who…‘ activity is a common icebreaker in second language classrooms. This activity is designed for intermediate English as a second language students. It is a task that requires students to mingle and get to know each other while speaking in English, but also requires students to think about their own goals, emotions, and strategies in language learning and learn about those of their classmates. In addition, it introduces some vocabulary that students might need in order to keep a journal of their goals, motivation and affective responses to speaking.
