Learning Styles

Despite their popularity, there is little empirical support for the idea that people have enduring learning styles that persist across learning tasks and contexts. The following video does a nice job of synthesizing the reserach to dispell myths about learning styles.

In this follow up video, Dr. Willingham clarifies a point he made at the end of the video. He clarifies that he absolutley supports the notion of differentiated instruction, but that the differentiation should be based on other individual differences (such as motivation, prior knowledge, etc.) not learning styles.

So, how did I do this?

I created a vodpod account so I had a place where I could collect links to videos I like and want to use for various things in my classes. You can create your own account or use mine. I will send my password in moodle. In vodpod you can search utube videos and add them to your collection. YOu can also post your own videos (just like Utube).

  • find the video and add it to your collection,
  • view your collection and there is a drop down list to the right “Share”
  • choose “embedd code”
  • select the code and copy-paste it into your wordpress page
